Hunt Seat Interscholastic Equestrian Association Team

Chestnut Hills' Tradition of Excellence

The Chestnut Hills IEA Hunt Seat Team has sent riders to the National Finals every year since its inception.  IEA is for riders in grades 4-12.  Our team starts its work in July each year with the regular season taking place from August through the end of February.  Riders need not own a horse or tack in order to participate.  IEA follows the college format of riding, where you draw a horse to ride, get on, and compete with little or no warm up! This format builds a rider's skills and prepares them for riding in college! It is a great way to build friendships and team skills!

Riders in IEA participate in up to 5 IEA shows per regular season. Post season participation is based upon performance during the regular season. San Diego is part of Zone 10, Region 1. Our region’s shows are primarily held in the Northern LA area. We will also need to host/co-host two shows each season at our barn, which will mean that each team member and their parent(s) volunteer and work at these events.

Regional Finals are usually in February or early March. To qualify for Regional Finals, a rider must earn 18+ points in a class during the regular season shows.

Zone Finals are usually in late March or early April.  To qualify for Zone Finals, a rider must earn 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, in a class at Regional Finals.

National Finals are usually held in late April. To qualify for National Finals, a rider must earn 1st place in a class at Zone Finals or be the high point rider for the zone in the Varsity Open Division.
